Ring in the New Year with VOCES8 as they journey from serene liturgical reflections to the vibrant climax of Jonathan Dove’s The Passing of the Year. From festive choral treasures to an exuberant seasonal finale at the composer’s piano, experience renewal as a never-ending circle.On New Year’s Eve, VOCES8 presents a transcendent programme shaped as two intertwined circles: the first unfolds with music for the start of the Church’s year and festive classics by Hieronymous Praetorius, Robert Lucas Pearsall, Reena Esmail, Kerensa Briggs, Philip Stopford, Elizabeth Poston and composer-in-residence Taylor Scott Davis. The second natural circle bursts into life in Jonathan Dove’s The Passing of the Year, a vivid musical journey from the bright optimism of spring through summer’s warmth and autumn’s rich hues before closing in winter’s bold, exhilarating outburst—performed live with Dove himself at the piano. Together, these liturgical and seasonal cycles mirror one another in a continuous, ever-turning spiral, inviting listeners to embrace the New Year not as a single moment but as an ongoing renewal.
