First, Mieczysław Weinberg’s Piano Trio in A minor unfolds with turbulent urgency and lyrical depth, composed just after World War II as a profound companion to Shostakovich’s own trio. Then, Antonín Dvořák’s ‘Dumky’ Trio juxtaposes moments of introspective melancholy and joyful dance across four contrasting movements, exploring the composer’s notion of ‘happy and sad’ music.
