Programme
Overview
Join Tenebrae for Joby Talbot’s mesmerising a cappella setting of Yeats’s The Song of Wandering Aengus, followed by Bob Chilcott’s evocative High Flight. An evening of transcendent choral brilliance awaits.Embark on a radiant journey through the heart of the British choral tradition as Tenebrae presents a programme of exquisite a cappella masterpieces. Opening the evening, Joby Talbot’s newly commissioned setting of W.B. Yeats’s The Song of Wandering Aengus entwines delicate vocal textures with the poem’s lyrical mysticism, guiding listeners from dusk’s hush to the dawn of revelation. Each voice weaves in and out of shimmering harmonies, capturing every nuance of Yeats’s wandering soul. The concert reaches its pinnacle with Bob Chilcott’s High Flight, a poignant evocation of his formative years as a boy chorister at King’s College, Cambridge, where soaring melodies and nostalgic refrains conjure memories of chapel devotion. Unfolding in a tapestry of luminous sound, this programme honours the depth and emotional power of Britain’s finest choral works, inviting audiences into moments of pure vocal transcendence.
