Featuring Geoffrey Bush’s celestial Songs of the Zodiac and Richard Rodney Bennett’s fiery Tom O’Bedlam’s Song, this intimate tribute concert promises an unforgettable evening.Forty years after his passing, the voice of Peter Pears returns in a heartfelt evening of remembrance. Tenor Robin Tritschler and pianist Malcolm Martineau honour the legendary English singer whose partnership with Benjamin Britten gave the world premiere of the Seven Sonnets of Michelangelo in 1942. This programme features Geoffrey Bush’s enchanting Songs of the Zodiac—twelve evocative settings composed in Pears’s memory—and the emotionally charged Tom O’Bedlam’s Song by Richard Rodney Bennett, originally written for Pears and cellist Joan Dickson. As Tritschler’s warm tenor soars above Martineau’s expressive accompaniment, the audience is swept through constellations of myth and madness, discovering anew the depth and passion of mid-century British song. Join us for an evening where artistry and remembrance intertwine in an intimate chamber setting.
