That initial setback forged Quatuor Agate into a remarkably unified ensemble, now hailed among the finest of its generation. This programme pairs the elegant wit and vibrant themes of Joseph Haydn’s Op.20 No.4 with the rich, cinematic lyricism of Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Second String Quartet—composed just before his 1933 journey to Hollywood. The quartet’s seamless interplay and profound expressivity invite listeners into an intimate sound world where classical precision meets romantic warmth.
