Programme
Overview
Forty years after her landmark recording, pianist Margaret Fingerhut returns with a spellbinding recital of French masterpieces drawn from Haydn’s name motif. From Debussy’s intimate Hommage à Haydn to two luminous excerpts from Reynaldo Hahn’s The Bewildered Nightingale, this concert is a decadent journey through Belle Époque Paris.Join pianist Margaret Fingerhut as she marks the 40th anniversary of her seminal project exploring six French composers’ variations on a five-note motif inspired by Haydn’s name. Her program unfolds with Debussy’s Hommage à Haydn, a wistful miniature alive with fleeting notes that culminate in thunderous chords, evoking the elegance and innovation of Belle Époque Paris. Fingerhut then offers two captivating selections from Reynaldo Hahn’s The Bewildered Nightingale, blending crystalline lyricism with moments of playful charm. With each nuanced interpretation under the soft glow of the concert hall, listeners are invited to rediscover these treasures through the refined sensibility of a master pianist.
