Programme
Overview
Dive into C.P.E. Bach’s ingenious sound world as Mahan Esfahani and Aapo Häkkinen unite for a spirited Double Concerto on harpsichord and fortepiano, followed by the electrifying drama of his E minor harpsichord concerto. Join this period-instrument revelation for an evening of tempestuous emotion and Baroque-Classical flair.Step into the expressive realm of Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, whose music bridges the grandeur of the Baroque and the emotional immediacy of the early Classical era. Under the masterful hands of harpsichordist Mahan Esfahani and fortepianist Aapo Häkkinen, the ensemble unveils the sparkling dialogues of the Double Concerto, where intricate ornamentation meets the fortepiano’s warm resonance. The mood intensifies as Esfahani returns to lead the Harpsichord Concerto in E minor, a vivid storm-and-stress masterpiece that seethes with dramatic shifts and passionate gestures. Backed by the Helsinki Baroque Orchestra on period instruments, this programme promises a captivating journey through the bold inventiveness and heartfelt spirit that define C.P.E. Bach’s legacy.
