Programme
Overview
Prize-winning baritone Gihoon Kim makes his Wigmore Hall debut with a captivating programme of Rachmaninov songs, Ravel’s Don Quichotte Chansons and contemporary Korean kagok. Experience an intimate evening of vocal artistry and cultural celebration.Following his first-prize victory at the 2021 BBC Cardiff Singer of the World Competition, Gihoon Kim has swiftly established himself on the foremost opera stages of Europe and beyond. In his Wigmore Hall debut, the South Korean baritone presents a thoughtfully curated recital, exploring poignant works by Rachmaninov and Ravel’s dramatic four Don Quichotte Chansons composed for Feodor Chaliapin in 1932. He completes the evening with three contemporary kagok, offering a fresh perspective on the lyrical traditions of his homeland. Against the hall’s renowned acoustic, Kim’s resonant timbre and nuanced phrasing will illuminate each score’s emotional landscape. This recital promises an evening of cross-cultural dialogue and vocal refinement, celebrating both the legacies of the past and the creative voices of today.
