Overview
Join violinist Francesca Dego and two Italian artists for a vivid celebration of American music and émigré creativity. From a rare Menotti gem to Stravinsky’s devilish suite and Bartók’s iconic trio, this concert pulses with bold, fiery melodies.Francesca Dego’s residency continues with an immersive tribute to the United States’ role in nurturing European émigré composers. Joined by two distinguished Italian colleagues, Dego opens with a seldom-heard Menotti gem composed to mark the twentieth anniversary of his death, its soaring lines and poignant harmonies setting a reflective tone. The programme then erupts in the devilish rhythms of Stravinsky’s suite from L’Histoire du soldat, reimagined through the dynamic interplay of violin, clarinet and piano. Finally, the trio unveils Bartók’s Contrasts, the work he premiered alongside Benny Goodman and Joseph Szigeti soon after finding refuge in America in 1940, weaving jazz-inflected motifs, Hungarian folk echoes and crystalline virtuosity into a compelling finale. Against the hall’s intimate acoustics, bold melodies and historic resonance combine to create an unforgettable evening.
