Programme
Overview
Celebrate Bach’s birthday with Florilegium and a dream-team quartet in a Palm Sunday concert of sacred and secular masterpieces. From the graceful Sinfonia to the triumphant Easter Oratorio’s blaze of trumpets and drums, experience the full glory of Baroque brilliance. In a fitting tribute to Johann Sebastian Bach’s birthday month, Florilegium joins forces with a dream-team quartet of singers for a Palm Sunday programme that traverses the sacred and the celebratory. Opening with the sinuous elegance of the Sinfonia from one of Bach’s most cherished church cantatas, the ensemble’s period instruments evoke the intimate splendour of early 18th-century liturgical music. As the evening unfolds, Bach’s Easter Oratorio bursts forth in a triumphant fanfare of trumpets and drums, illuminating themes of renewal and the boundless greatness of creation. With decades of advocacy for authentic Baroque performance, Florilegium brings renewed vibrancy to these masterpieces, promising an evening of profound emotion and radiant joy.
