Programme
Overview
Celebrate Britten’s legacy with a stirring concert marking the 50th anniversary of his passing, featuring his Canticles performed by tenor Allan Clayton, pianist James Baillieu and a distinguished ensemble. Feel the spiritual depth and dramatic mastery of these intimate song cycles. On the 50th anniversary of Benjamin Britten’s death, this special concert places his Canticles at center stage. Drawing on poetry and sacred scripture – from the Song of Songs to Abraham’s sacrifice – each Canticle unfolds a distinct narrative. In 'My beloved is mine', Clayton’s luminous tenor and Baillieu’s sensitive pianism conjure an atmosphere of hushed devotion. Joined by a handpicked ensemble of Britten specialists for the remaining works, the program moves through themes of sacrifice, revelation and redemption, each delivered with arresting clarity and dramatic power. Underpinned by Britten’s daring harmonies and incisive text-painting, the evening unfolds as an immersive journey of spiritual depth and musical brilliance.
