After the interval, soprano Barbara Hannigan joins to bring Satie’s austere Socrate to life.In an inspired programme tracing the unlikely yet profound link between Erik Satie and John Cage, pianist Bertrand Chamayou brings to life a sequence of works defined by wit, stillness and radical simplicity. From Satie’s delicate Gymnopédies and introspective Gnossiennes to Cage’s pioneering explorations of silence and chance, each piece illuminates the transformative power of minimalist language. After the interval, Chamayou is joined by soprano Barbara Hannigan for Socrate – Satie’s austere, transcendent setting of Plato’s dialogues – where voice and piano merge in an intimate ritual of restrained beauty. This recital invites you to rediscover modern music’s subtle depths and profound serenity.
