The Municipal Theater of La Paz is the main theater in the city of La Paz and the stage for the presentation of recitals and musical concerts, theatrical works, ballet, and opera, among others. cultural shows. Located on Jenaro Sanjinez street on the corner of Indaburo in the city of La Paz. It was inaugurated in 1845, being the second oldest theater in South America.

Built in 1834 during the government of President Andrés de Santa Cruz, it was completed in 1845 during the presidency of José Ballivián y Segurola. The theater was designed by the architect José Nuñez del Prado, who was based on a theater in Venice. It was inaugurated on November 18, 1845, with the presentation of the Coat of Arms of Bolivia and the National Anthem.

Initially, it was known as the National Theater, when it was taken over by the Municipality of La Paz it was designated as Municipal, later being named in memory of the playwright from La Paz, Alberto Saavedra Pérez.
