Collegiate Church of Baden-Baden

The Collegiate Church was built in the 13th century and is the oldest church in Baden-Baden. In the 15th century, the Romanesque building was expanded into a Gothic hall church, which repeatedly underwent structural changes over the following centuries.

One of the most important works of art in the church is the monumental sandstone cross by Nikolaus Gerhaert von Leyden (1467), an outstanding example of Gothic sculptural art.

Also worth mentioning are the late Gothic sacrament house (around 1490) and a seated Madonna made of linden wood (14th century) and a late Gothic Madonna and Child made of sandstone (around 1500).

Until the Baden-Baden line died out in 1793, the collegiate church was the burial place of the margravial family, as evidenced by the many elaborately designed commemorative plaques in the chancel of the church.
