Overview
This small group tour showcases the artistic and historical gems of Verona, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. What’s more, you’ll experience true Veronese culture with a wine tasting aperitivo. The city is Italy’s wine capital, after all. Carlo, one of our local guides, says, ‘Learn about the imagery and symbolism surrounding monuments from the Roman, medieval and Venetian periods. Best of all, listen to more stories over a glass of local wine.’ The tour kicks off at the 2,000-year-old Roman amphitheatre – one of the best-preserved ancient structures of its kind. Nowadays, it hosts a world-class opera festival every summer. Walk along Via Mazzini, the main shopping street, until you reach the cobbled courtyard of Juliet’s House. Look up to see the famous balcony and get up close to the totemic bronze statue of Shakespeare’s leading lady herself for some luck in love. You’ll see the tallest tower in Verona and visit the vibrant square of Piazza delle Erbe. Admire frescoed façades and the most beloved fountain in the city – of Verona herself. Star-crossed wine lovers will fall head over heels with a trip to a local osteria. Choose a red or white to go with a selection of nibbles for a true Veronese aperitivo as your guide tells you more secrets about the city. ‘The aperitivo is a sacred ritual in Verona,’ says Carlo. ‘It’s a way to spend time together with a glass of fine wine and good food.’
