Overview
The tour of Printemps Haussmann takes you on a journey behind the facade, which is listed as an Historic Monument, and through the history of a building which is one of the most striking examples of the technical and aesthetic changes that have transformed Paris since the Second Empire.Since its opening in 1865, Printemps has embodied a new idea of fashion and elegance, promoting the "new", the "fresh" and the "pretty". These principles were defended by its young founder Jules Jaluzot even within the ornamental details, the architecture, and the operation of the store, whose first elevators, electric lighting and iron and glass architecture amazed the whole of Paris.Your guide will open the doors of many areas that are closed to the public, from the terrace on the roof of the store to the labyrinthine galleries that still house all the equipment and infrastructures and that enable the department store to operate today. You will meet the electricians, carpenters and operators who work every day in the basements of Printemps. For the first time, visitors will be able to venture into the "double shell" and discover the inside of the monumental dome that crowns the building.
