Overview
The city of Arnhem played a major part in the largest airborne campaign of the Second World War – Operation Market Garden. On this tour, you’ll visit some landmarks related to the offensive, before heading to Arnhem’s city centre. First, you’ll pay tribute to the 1,764 Allied soldiers that died during the Battle of Arnhem at the Arnhem Oosterbeek War Cemetery. Next, you’ll visit the Airborne Museum, where you’ll learn about the operation as you look around the photo exhibits and military equipment. Don’t miss the Airborne Experience here, too – this interactive exhibit shows you what it was like as a British paratrooper entering the battle by glider. Your last stop is Arnhem’s city centre for a walking tour. One of the sights you’ll see is the John Frost Bridge, where British forces held off German tanks for four days. After your tour, you’ll have some free time to wander the city, before returning to the port.
