Overview
Northeastern La Palma holds the secret to why it's known as the Green Island. And with our expert guides, you'll get the inside track from passionate locals. Rudi, one of our guides, says, ‘Before becoming a guide, I worked on a Canarian banana plantation for 5 years. Let me introduce you to the traditions of the island.' On this full day tour, you'll discover fragrant forests, volcanic rock pools and colonial villages. Then, to round off the experience, you'll sample sweet-as-honey local rum.Kick off this jam-packed excursion with a drive through Santa Cruz, the island's picture-postcard capital. Then it's on to Casa Lujan in Puntallana. This historic building houses an ethnographic museum, which brings recreates the rural life of yesteryear. You'll want to take some selfies at San Bartolo viewpoint – overlooking steep gorges and beyond, the views are a showstopper.From here, it's on to the village of La Galga, which boasts equally impressive views, for one of Rudi's favourite parts of the tour. ‘We'll walk beside tropical plantations and find out why they're essential to island life,' he says. Then, after a stroll along the volcanic shoreline of Charco Azul, we'll stop to taste rum at one of the last traditional distilleries in the Canaries.' Finally, it's on to the secret waterfall inside the dewy laurel rainforests at Los Tiles – a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. This status is awarded to areas of incredible biodiversity that strike a sustainable balance between humanity and nature.
