Discover the medieval city centre and the history of Innsbruck following its most important landmarks and craftsmen.Meet your guide at the Triumphal Arch, one of the city's most significant sights, built by the famous Austrian Empress Maria-Theresia for the wedding of her son Leopold.The Empress is also the namesake of the adjacent Maria-Theresien-Straße, which you will follow to the old town. On the way, you will take in a breathtaking view over Innsbruck and the Alps and learn more about the traditional costumes, the "Tracht”. Marvel at the Imperial Church where Tyrolean folk hero Andreas Hofer was finding his eternal rest next to the pompous grave monument of the Roman-German Emperor MaximilianAt the Imperial Palace in the immediate vicinity of which a bakery defies the advance of supermarket chains to satisfy the hunger of its residents and visitors alike with freshly baked strudel in various variants. The Tyroleans love their desserts, preferably in combination with a hot cup of coffee: Even today, the city's first coffee roastery is hidden in the winding streets of the old town.Only a few steps away from Innsbruck's landmark is one of the oldest family businesses in Austria, which still manufactures candles and soap by hand.Before the tour ends in the old town, you will get to know one of the most important raw materials of the Tyrolean handicraft tradition: Wood that is used to build traditional alpine “postcard motive” houses, but also skis, sleds, nativity figures.
