Overview
DMZ Vietnam( the Vietnamese demilitarized zone) was located on the 17th parallel that was the border of North and South Vietnam during the Vietnam War. It left a barren desert created by hundreds of thousands of tons of high explosives, estimated to be the equivalent of seven Hiroshima atom bombs, as well as napalm, phosphorous and herbicide. The first stop will be the Rockpile, an important lookout and firebase of the Marines south of the DMZ. You will view the old tactical area where the Marines fought in the famous operations Hastings and Prairie during 1966-1967. Your next stop will be Dakrong bridge - the starting point of one of the main branches of the legendary Ho Chi Minh Trail leading to the infamous Ashau Valley and the Hamburger Hill. Continue to Khe Sanh combat base and after that, head back to Dong Ha for a lunch break.Head north to the former demilitarized zone, the old de-facto border between North and South Vietnam for 18 years, where you will take a walk on the Freedom bridge across the Ben Hai river. The last stop of the day is Vịnh Moc tunnels, the refuge of some 300 North Vietnamese refugees during Rolling Thunder bombing operation.
