Overview
This guided itinerary will take you back in time to the ancient Republic of Genoa, where manufacturing was one of the most important activities. You will discover typical fabrics such as lace and less noble fabrics, such as hemp and "the blue of Genoa", now known as "blue jeans", a particular fabric that was used to cover goods on ships and later worn by sailors themselves. The route will take you to visit the historic center with a particular focus on the craft stores. You will stop in a historic workshop located in the old town which has always treated the Genoese "mezzari" - large pieces of fabric in cotton or linen richly printed with fanciful designs of trees (the best known is "the Tree of Life") that were once used both to cover garments and as a furnishing accessory in many noble palaces.Have lunch where you prefer and in the afternoon you will be taken on a guided tour of the Diocesan Museum, a real treasure chest of works of art located inside the cloister of San Lorenzo. In the museum, you'll find sculptures, paintings, sails of ships and canvases of the '500 painted on the famous "blue of Genoa", the current blue jeans fabric.
