Straddie, as it is affectionately known, is the second-largest sand island in the world. The island is about 38 km long and 11 km wide. It has a permanent population of approximately 2500 with three main townships of Dunwich, Amity Point and Point Lookout. The island’s unique, timeless beauty is appreciated by all who live there and visit the island. Aboriginal artifacts have been found on Straddie that date settlement back as far as 25,000 years ago.
