Overview
Travel back in time and discover on this guided walking tour the locations of key street battles in Berlin during WWII. It is the 28th of April 1945, Hitler's 1,000-year Reich has been bashed and beaten into a space no larger than a handful of city blocks in the center of the city. The Soviet forces are converging on their prize — the Reichstag.Your journey begins at the meeting point on the southern side of the modern Hauptbahnhof (Berlin Main Station) before heading to the Moltke Bridge. This red sandstone ornate structure became the scene of some of the city’s most brutal fighting. Here, you will orientate yourselves to the Soviet 3rd Shock Army’s axis of advance and discuss the key challenges for the Soviets and the German defenders. You will continue over the bridge to the infamous ‘Himmler House’ in the old diplomatic quarter now destroyed through to the former Königsplatz the 300 m moonscape the 207th and 150th rifle divisions would have to cross before reaching the Reichstag. As you will walk toward the Reichstag, you discuss Hitler’s final moments in the Führer bunker before concluding the tour discussing the Soviet flag raising.
