Overview
Albert Einstein was a Swabian physicist known for his outstanding intellect. After spending his childhood in the Bavarian capital, in 1941 he moved to eastern Germany where he spent two decades working in Berlin and Potsdam. Best known for developing the theory of relativity, he was a pacifist and continued to campaign for a peaceful resolution of the war conflict. Discover places related to his life with an expert guide! Start your walking tour around the Brandenburg Gate. Not linked directly to Einstein's life himself, it is a must-see when visiting Berlin. The Brandenburg Gate as a symbol of Peace and Freedom is one of the city's most characteristic landmarks. Admire its stunning architecture and then move to the Einstein Unter Den Linden cafe. Named after this famous physicist, it offers a wide selection of food and drinks. Spend a moment in this well-known spot considered to be Berlin's meeting point for politicians and celebrities. Grab a coffee and move to the former Royal Prussian Academy of Sciences. Today it houses the Berlin State Library, but it was an important place in Einstein’s life as on 25 November 1915 he presented his field equations of general relativity to the Academy. Visit the Humboldt University of Berlin. It is the oldest university in Berlin, founded by Frederick William III in 1809. It was regarded as the world's preeminent university for the natural sciences during the 19th and early 20th century, as it is linked to important breakthroughs in physics and other sciences. Albert Einstein has been giving lectures at this university from 1915 to 1929.
