The Battleship Averof, the most significant Greek naval vessel, played a crucial part in the history of the Hellenic Navy during the Balkan War. It was commissioned in 1911 and remained in active service for over 44 years. Today. The ship stands as a monument to Greece’s navy and modern history.At the end your visit, your last stop will be the Phaleron War Cemetery. The Athens memorial stands within the Phaleron War Cemetery and it commemorates nearly 3,000 members of the allied forces of the Commonwealth who lost their lives during the campaigns in Greece and Crete in 1941 and 1944-1945.
