Overview
Plantage is the greenest area in the center of Amsterdam. Rembrandt lived here, the oldest zoo in the Netherlands is located here, one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe, and the only museum of microorganisms in the world is also situated here! However, Plantage is best known as the Jewish quarter. It is associated with the history of the persecution of Jews in World War II, a sorrowful page of Dutch history that you need to know. The famous Portuguese Synagogue is also located here. This landmark still functions, just as in the 17th century. There is no heating and electricity, the synagogue is lit by thousands of candles. You will definitely visit it on our tour.
