Overview

"Only This Green" is a contemporary Chinese dance performance based on the famous Northern Song painting "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains" by Wang Ximeng . Through dance, the performance transports the audience to the world of traditional Chinese painting, crafts, and aesthetics of the Song Dynasty.

The action is structured at the intersection of two timelines. A contemporary researcher from the Palace Museum, studying "A Thousand Miles of Rivers and Mountains," finds himself stepping inside the painting and standing alongside the young artist Ximeng, who is creating his famous work.
The performance uses the chapters "Unrolling the Scroll," "Unrolling the Scroll," "Unrolling the Scroll," "Unrolling the Scroll," "Unrolling the Scroll," "Unrolling the Scroll," "Unrolling the Scroll," "Unrolling the Scroll," and "Unrolling the Scroll," revealing the painting's history, the work of the artist and craftsmen, and the aesthetics of traditional Chinese painting. A special place is occupied by the image of "Qinglv"—a blue-green color/image that becomes the central visual symbol of the production. The choreography transforms the forms of the painting's mountains, rivers, and lines into the movements of the human body.
