This Baroque masterpiece unfolds the tragic romance between Dido, Queen of Carthage, and the Trojan hero Aeneas: their impulsive bond gives way to Dido’s shattering lament when duty calls Aeneas away. Mezzo-soprano Beth Taylor summons regal dignity and heart-piercing sorrow in Dido’s arias, complemented by Jonathan Brown’s steadfast Aeneas and Anna Dennis’s tender Belinda.
