The opening fanfare of Star Wars evokes the vastness of the galaxy at war, while Indiana Jones’s whip-cracking themes conjure sun-drenched ruins and daring escapades. Dark, undulating strings summon the lurking menace of Jaws, then billowing brass and sweeping orchestral swells unleash the primeval grandeur of Jurassic Park. Schindler’s List’s poignant violin solos trace lines of hope amid adversity; E.T.’s tender melodies rekindle childlike wonder; spellbinding motifs from Harry Potter shimmer in candlelight; and Superman’s triumphant brass wings spread in a final, heroic flourish.
