Programme
Overview
Celebrate the 200th anniversary of William Blake’s passing with the BBC Singers in an evocative concert featuring the world premiere of Patrick Hawes’s Five Songs of Experience. From Parry’s majestic Blest Pair of Sirens to Mozart’s profound Requiem, immerse yourself in a sublime choral journey through poetry and passion. To mark two centuries since William Blake’s passing, the BBC Singers present an evocative programme that weaves poetry and sound into a profound choral tapestry. The evening opens with the world premiere of Patrick Hawes’s Five Songs of Experience, whose luminous settings of Blake’s verses guide the listener from stark reflection to transcendent hope. Next, Hubert Parry’s majestic Blest Pair of Sirens brings John Milton’s text to life with rich, soaring harmonies that once stirred Blake’s own imagination. William Harris’s motet Faire is the Heaven follows, its sumptuous vocal textures evoking celestial beauty, before Mozart’s Requiem offers a poignant finale—a mirror to Blake’s visionary exploration of mortality and redemption. One interval invites contemplation of these converging artistic legacies in a concert that celebrates the enduring power of voice and verse.
