Programme
Overview
French violin virtuoso François Pineau-Benois teams up with prize-winning pianist Adam Szokolay for an evocative journey through 20th-century sonatas by Ravel, Prokofiev and Bartók. They then join forces with Gabriel Prokofiev for a cutting-edge finale that melds live electronics with classical brilliance. In this richly textured recital, French violin virtuoso François Pineau-Benois and pianist Adam Szokolay embark on a compelling voyage through the heart of 20th-century chamber music. They open with Maurice Ravel’s Sonata for Violin and Piano, a tapestry of impressionistic colors and delicate melodies that sweep from hushed introspection to radiant flourish. Next, they confront Sergei Prokofiev’s Violin Sonata No. 1, where propulsive rhythms and daring harmonies spark an electrifying dialogue between bow and keyboard. The first half closes with Béla Bartók’s intensely passionate Sonata, blending folk-inflected motifs with visceral urgency. After a 20-minute interval, Gabriel Prokofiev—grandson of Sergei Prokofiev—joins the duo, introducing his own innovative compositions alongside live electronics that pulse beneath the acoustic interplay. This dynamic finale expands the sonata tradition into fresh sonic realms, weaving analog warmth and digital textures into an unforgettable two-hour programme.
