Programme
Overview
Florilegium transports you to the heart of eighteenth-century Europe with a dazzling programme of J.S. Bach, C.P.E. Bach and Telemann. Under the direction of baroque flautist Ashley Solomon, four virtuosi weave solos, duets and trio sonatas into an intimate chamber music experience.Step into an intimate chamber setting as Florilegium—led by baroque flautist and director Ashley Solomon—revives the vibrancy of eighteenth-century Europe. This programme traces a musical dialogue across three generations: from the profound solo sonatas of J.S. Bach, through the expressive duo and trio works of C.P.E. Bach, to the sophisticated counterpoint of Telemann’s Paris Quartets. Magda Loth-Hill’s baroque violin and Reiko Ichise’s resonant viola da gamba intertwine with Solomon’s flute, underpinned by Steven Devine’s shimmering harpsichord continuo, creating a tapestry of elegant melodies and spirited interplay. Spanning two hours, including a 20-minute intermission, each movement reveals the clarity, ornamentation and emotional depth that defined the Baroque, inviting listeners to rediscover its timeless intimacy and grace.
