Programme
Overview
Join the Fitzwilliam Quartet for a landmark evening featuring the UK premiere of Peter Fribbins’s Lachrimae and his arrangement of Dowland’s ‘Lacrimae Verae’. Mozart’s exuberant ‘Spring’ Quartet and Beethoven’s profound Op. 132 complete this captivating programme.Experience two hours of chamber-music splendour as the Fitzwilliam Quartet traces the arc of British musical ingenuity from the Elizabethan era to the present day. The programme opens with the UK premiere of Peter Fribbins’s Lachrimae, a vivid contemporary response to John Dowland’s 1604 pavans, followed by Fribbins’s own arrangement of ‘Lacrimae Verae,’ where rich harmonies evoke the essence of Renaissance lament. Mozart’s String Quartet No. 19 in C major, ‘Spring,’ infuses the evening with radiant melodies and lively interplay, leading to a transcendent conclusion in Beethoven’s late Quartet in A minor, Op. 132, celebrated for its profound introspection and triumphant allegros. With a 20-minute interval to reflect, this concert promises an intimate journey through four centuries of chamber music.
