Programme

Overview

Join soprano Ruby Hughes and the United Strings of Europe for an evocative concert of 20th- and 21st-century works celebrating nature’s splendour and our stewardship of the planet. Experience innovative commissions and fresh arrangements that reconnect music to the earth and inspire hope.Soprano Ruby Hughes teams with the United Strings of Europe in a captivating programme of 20th- and 21st-century compositions that honour the beauty of the natural world and probe our place within it. The concert features new commissions and arrangements by British composers Joanna Marsh, Errollyn Wallen, Deborah Pritchard and Rhian Samuel, pairing Hughes’s luminous voice with the vivid resonance of a string orchestra. From the shimmering intimacy of Marsh’s landscape-inspired melodies to the dynamic textures of Wallen’s song cycles, each work invites listeners to reflect on biodiversity, stewardship and the enduring bond between creativity and the Earth. Through this immersive musical exploration, the ensemble offers not answers to ecological challenges but a restorative space for contemplation, calm and renewed optimism.
