His solo piano albums feature masterful interpretations of works by Bach, Ligeti, and others, as well as his own original compositions. He furthered his education at Indiana University and the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. Lü's career took off after winning first prizes at the Besançon, Pedrotti, and Kondrashin international conducting competitions.
Lü has held notable positions in Germany, serving as principal resident conductor at the Komische Oper Berlin (1995-1998), music director of the Koblenz Theatre (1998-2001), the Rheinische Philharmonie (1998-2004), and the Staatsoper Hannover (2001-2006). In May 2004, he was honored with the Peter Cornelius Medal, the highest cultural accolade of the state, by the Minister of Culture.
From 2010 to 2020, Lü served as the music director of the Taiwan Philharmonic. He was the principal conductor of the South Denmark Philharmonic from 2014 to 2017 and currently holds the title of honorary conductor of the Taiwan Philharmonic.
