Overview

The original Italian musical "Casanova - Lover of Venice" is adapted from Matteo Strukur's best-selling classic "Giacomo Casanova - The Ballad of Deadwood", which tells the legendary experience of adventurer Giacomo Casanova and praises the romantic city of Venice.

The play premiered in Venice in early 2022 and then toured major cities in Italy. With its unique charm, it has been officially recognized by the Italian Ministry of Culture and the City of Venice.

The show was created and produced by Ryder Canzian, the composer and bassist of the legendary Italian band POOH, and the costumes were designed by award-winning designer Stefano Nicolaio. The Italian-style music and dance, combined with exquisite historical costumes and scenes, present the splendor of Venice in the 18th century to the audience.

The famous musical actor Gian Marco Schiaretti plays the leading role in the play, playing the protagonist Giacomo Casanova. Gian is well known to the audience for his wonderful performances in the musicals "Notre Dame de Paris" and "Don Giovanni". "Casanova" is also his first return to the stage of Italian musicals after 13 years of starring in many international works, which is of great significance.

"Casanova: Lover of Venice" tells the story of Giacomo Casanova, who returns to his hometown Venice after ending his exile and tries to save Venice from the dangerous game of power.

The romantic adventurer Casanova returns to his hometown Venice after ending his exile. At a ball, he meets Francesca Ezzoli, the young daughter of a Venetian noble. The two fall in love at first sight. However, Casanova accidentally kills Francesca's fiancé in a duel, and he falls into self-blame and panic, and begins to flee.

At the same time, Inquisitor Garzoni conspired with Countess von Steinberg to arrest Casanova on charges of heresy. The Countess hoped to gain fame from this and promised to help Garzoni become the new Doge. In exchange, Garzoni would cede Venice to Austria.

Rebellious and determined, Francesca decided to flee with Casanova, but was blocked by Garzoni. After a hasty farewell to Francesca, Casanova was arrested and imprisoned. With the help of his friend Mocenigo, a member of the parliament, he managed to escape and learned about the evil plan of the Countess and Garzoni. Casanova finally succeeded in saving Venice from danger and reunited with Francesca.
