Programme
Overview
Travel from Classical cheer to modern mystique with the RCM Wind Ensemble’s octet concert. Beethoven’s youthful spirit meets Stravinsky’s dream-inspired wind and brass textures in a single unforgettable evening.Prepare for a stirring journey through the evolution of wind ensemble writing as the RCM Wind Ensemble explores two masterworks written more than a century apart. The evening opens with Beethoven’s charming early octet, a sparkling example of his youthful inventiveness, where playful dialogues between winds and brass capture the bright spirit of the Classical era. This is followed by Stravinsky’s Octet, a groundbreaking score for four woodwind and four brass instruments born from a vivid dream, its taut rhythms and shadowy harmonies evoking a ritualistic pulse. Under the ensemble’s precise and vibrant interpretation, these contrasting works reveal a century of musical transformation in one captivating programme.
