Programme

Overview

Experience the fiery brilliance of Stravinsky’s Firebird and Violin Concerto under Naomi Woo’s dynamic baton with prizewinner Sasha Parker, then be uplifted by Beethoven’s majestic Mass in C with soloists and chorus. A night of innovation and profound musical depth awaits. In a concert brimming with vitality and artistry, conductor Naomi Woo leads the orchestra through two groundbreaking works by Stravinsky before turning to Beethoven’s radiant Mass in C. The evening opens with The Firebird, Stravinsky’s early ballet score abounding in vivid orchestral colours and folk-inspired motifs, followed by his Violin Concerto in D major—rendered with crystalline precision by RCM Concerto Competition winner Sasha Parker in a masterful display of neoclassical clarity and rhythmic finesse. After the interval, four vocal soloists join the ensemble and chorus in Beethoven’s Mass in C major, a monumental sacred composition whose soaring choral passages and noble harmonic language convey unwavering emotional integrity. From the ballet’s fiery energy to the Mass’s transcendent harmonies, this programme promises an evening of thrilling contrasts, inventive spirit and deep musical conviction.
