About
Richard Peduzzi is a French set and furniture designer who started his career as a painter until he met with director Patrice Chéreau in 1968. Since then, (and until the disappearing of the latter in 2013), the two started a long artistic collaboration that sees the scenography as deeply connected to the staging of a theatrical show.
In Richard Peduzzi’s sets, huge architectural masses are the main subject and the actors appear oppressed by the context. The feelings of the characters are reflected and confirmed by the architecture of the sets, being them labyrinthine, in ruins or imposing on the human being. The visual and cultural references are extremely large and find their roots in neoclassicism, expressionism, brutalism and the Roman Renaissance. All the different styles are combined to produce synthetical and somehow atemporal sets.
