The musicians of this 11-piece ensemble were specially selected for the concert at the Beethovenfest Bonn. All musicians are part of the Podium Music Festival which was founded in 2009 as a small, alternative chamber music festival for young people. It has turned into a diverse platform for innovation in the area of classical and contemporary music in just a few years. The ensemble creates experience-rich and interdisciplinary concerts as well as discursive and experimental formats under the motto ‘music as it wants to’.
The flagship is the annual PODIUM Festival Esslingen, which is a showcase for many new productions, programmes and experiments. A comprehensive education programme forms a further focus. Many guest performances in Germany and in other countries as well as the PODIUM satellite festivals in Bebenhausen Abbey (Tübingen) and at Radialsystem V, Berlin, are part of the extensive annual programme. With PODIUM.Digital and the virtual music curator Henry the ensemble then created its own digital platform in 2016, in which artistic formats are explored for the digital realm. The project #bebeethoven is a further element of this future lab investigating questions about making music in the 21st century.
The Ensemble PODIUM Esslingen is made up of young musicians from many different nations who have met at the festival projects. They are united in their desire for interdisciplinary and experimental projects where the music is at the centre – without fear of crossing boundaries.
