Severin Cornichon, the mayor of Perpignan, is one of several admirers of the Parisian singer Clo-Clo Mustache. She asks the mayor to help her out of a financial predicament, but he refuses. In a letter to the mayor, she heartily titles him with the word "Papa". Mayor's wife Melousine gets hold of the letter and she thinks Clo-Clo is her husband's daughter. When their marriage was childless, she rejoiced at the thought of a stepdaughter. She travels to Paris to get to know her. They both become friends and Melousine wants to bring Clo-Clo home and take her into the family. Clo-Clo thinks it is a good thing as the police are currently calling for a female police officer. When the women arrive in Perpignan, it becomes all embarrassing for the mayor. He is forced to recognize Clo-Clo as his daughter. Clo-Clo adopts the name "Babette" and plays "the virgin from the country". Melousine hires piano teacher Chablis to raise the stepdaughter. He falls in love with Babette, however. She is again raised by other suitors. But fate catches her eye. Authorities announce that "Babette's" correct identity is Clo-Clo. She is arrested for assaulting the police. There will be scandal in Perpignan and the mayor gets rid of his office. After two weeks, Clo-Clo is released. The mayor and his wife adopt Clo-Clo, who marries his childhood friend Maxime.

Venue Info

Kongress & TheaterHaus - Bad Ischl
Location   Kurhausstraße 8

The Kongress & Theaterhaus (formerly Kurhaus) in Bad Ischl, Upper Austria, was built between 1873 and 1875 by the architect Hyazinth Michel (1846-1904).

Due to the imperial summer residence in Bad Ischl and the numerous guests from science, culture and through the imperial house a spa house was necessary to hold concerts and balls for their entertainment. In 1872, the market town bought the so-called "Pfifferlingfeld" and built the Kurhaus there.

In 1965, a devastating fire destroyed the building largely, only the auditorium was spared by the flames. By decision of the city, the house was rebuilt but almost identical and thus retained its style and the flair of the imperial era.

In 1997, the walls were completely restored and renamed it "Kongress & Theaterhaus".

Today, the Congress & Theater House hosts balls, cultural events and various performances of the famous Lehár Festival Bad Ischl.
