The evening opens with Ravel’s Rapsodie espagnole, awash in shimmering Spanish colour and rhythmic vitality, followed by La valse, a glittering ballroom portrait that unravels into dark, exhilarating turbulence. In the second half, Rachmaninov’s Symphonic Dances unfolds in the composer’s own two-piano arrangement, combining sweeping lyricism, driving rhythms and towering virtuosity. Chen and Beisembayev’s seamless interplay reveals fresh perspectives on each work’s emotional depth and orchestral grandeur, fusing large-scale drama with chamber-music intimacy.
