The first half opens with Joan Trimble’s poetic Phantasy, then unfolds the expansive warmth of Brahms’s Piano Trio in C major and the luminous energy of Ravel’s Piano Trio. After the interval, Astor Piazzolla’s unmistakable voice takes centre stage: Escualo’s restless drive, the haunting intimacy of Milonga del Ángel, the dramatic surge of Muerte del Ángel and the virtuosic flare of Grand Tango come vividly to life, as Benitez and Benitez translate every musical phrase into electrifying movement.
