The programme opens with stirring choral works by James MacMillan and John Sheppard, weaving solemn Renaissance textures into the vibrant imagination of Caroline Shaw and Taylor Scott Davis, VOCES8's composer-in-residence. Next, J.S. Bach's solo violin Partita No. 2 unfolds in an innovative presentation, as interwoven chorales thread through its movements and amplify its profound spiritual depth. Then Ralph Vaughan Williams's beloved The Lark Ascending, arranged by Paul Drayton for voices and violin, offers a serene flight of melody and harmony.
