History
Created in 2001 by the merging of the Ensemble Oriol Berlin with the Persius Ensemble from Potsdam, the Chamber Academy Potsdam was able to build on the experience of the Ensemble Oriol Berlin as a string orchestra without a conductor and on an extensive repertoire from Baroque to Modern that the ensemble has since its inception in 1987. With the wind instruments of the Persius Ensemble, not only the tonal possibilities were expanded, but also the repertoire. In the meantime, the orchestra's stylistic diversity ranges from the baroque opera on historical instruments to the classical symphony and the premiere of contemporary works. The artistic direction was initially in the hands of Peter Rundel. Under Sergio Azzolini, a clear profile in the area of the 18th century began in 2002, which Andrea Marcon continued from 2007. Michael Sanderling further developed the symphonic qualities of the orchestra, from 2006 with a repertoire focus on Beethoven and Shostakovich. Antonello Manacorda has been chief conductor of the Potsdam Chamber Academy since the 2010/2011 season. As a soloist, a. The chamber academy has made a name for itself as an ensemble of original instruments under Sergio Azzolini, Konrad Junghaelel, Bernhard Forck and Erich Höbarth.
