The Belgian city of Mons is an important university town and commercial center.
From its role as a heavy industry center during the Industrial Revolution, the place flourished and turned into a city of large boulevards and open to modern urban projects. The city, elected European Capital of Culture in 2015, develops around the main square, in the old town's center. This lively area is full of cafes and restaurants surrounding the town hall, belfry, and other important monuments.
