Bottrop is a city in the state North-Rhine-Westphalia, and it’s located in the Ruhr-industrial area. The city is famous for its past as a mining center, but today it has much more to offer.

Bottrop was an important coal-mining center in the 19th century containing factories that produced coal-tar derivatives, chemicals, textiles, and machinery. During World War II the city was heavily bombed and had to be reconstructed. The 50-m-tall walkable steel tetrahedron is the town’s landmark since 1995.The city is also famous for the theme park Movie Park Germany that consists of 7 areas based on movies and TV series. Moreover, Bottrop hosts many other attractions: The Alpincenter is the world’s longest indoor ski slope and Schloss Beck, a castle from the late baroque period, has been now turned into an amusement park. The Indoor Skydiving vertical wind tunnel attracts skydivers from all over Europe.
