Akita City (秋田) is the capital of Akita Prefecture, located up north in the Tohoku Region of Japan.
The city is best known for hosting the Kanto Matsuri, a large festival in the beginning of August in which revelers balance long bamboo poles with dozens of paper lanterns attached to the end.
