Overview

Set sail for Verdi’s Il corsaro – London’s first revival in 30 years – and witness the brooding pirate captain Conrad in a torrent of thrilling melodies. Rising star Lewis Gaston makes his debut with Chelsea Opera Group in a concert performance sung in Italian with English surtitles.Verdi’s Il corsaro brings Lord Byron’s legendary pirate saga to vivid life, centring on the tormented Captain Conrad and his daring raid on Ottoman shores. Conducted by rising star Lewis Gaston in his debut with the Chelsea Opera Group, this concert performance – sung in Italian with English surtitles – showcases Verdi’s stirring overtures, haunting arias for the loyal Medora and the yearning Gulnara, and sweeping orchestral drama. Unheard in London for three decades, this rare Verdi masterpiece promises an evening of swashbuckling adventure and emotional depth. Enhance your experience with a pre-concert talk by scholar Simon Bainbridge, who will illuminate the opera’s historical and musical landscape.
