Debussy’s Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune follows, unfurling an intimate, sensuous world through the flute’s undulating melodies, drawing listeners into a lush dreamscape. Sandwiched between these two masterpieces is the world premiere of a brand-new commission by British composer Laurence Osborn—a captivating exploration of the night’s mystery and wonder—brought to life by superstar cellist Zlatomir Fung. Under the visionary baton of guest conductor Ariane Matiakh in her debut with the orchestra, this programme weaves raw drama, impressionistic poetry and fresh nocturnal fantasia into an unforgettable evening.
